Welcome to Janta Shivratri College Palamu

It is known to all that during the years 1969-1970 two colleges “Janta College’ and Shivratri College’ were running in Daltonganj. Dr. George Jacob Vice-Chancellor of Ranchi University felt the need of merging both the colleges. As a result of the continuous efforts made by the V.C., the united form of these two colleges came into existence and a new name was given “Janta Shivratri College”. Sri Paras Nath Sinha was made the principal os the college. Later, Sri Muneshwar Singh was sent by UGC as the new principal of the college. Famous literary person, social activist and industrialist Mr. Jyoti Prakash gave Lohardaga Bhawan Situated at Redma for running the college and from his contribution made available the courses of Graduation in Arts and Commerce. Due to commendable efforts of the principal, Sri Muneshwar Singh the college received 7.5 acre land at Shridhar Nagar from land donor, socialist, leader and advocate Mr. Parmeshwari Dutt Jha. On that piece of land, the present college campus is situated. The Principal made available different contributions and donations for the college from University, Bihar Government and UGC. Getting satisfaction with the progress of the college in 1980, Bihar government accepted this college as the un separated part of Ranchi University and thus it was merged in RU. In 2009, Nilamber-Pitamber University (NPU) was established at Medininagar. Now Janta Shivratri College is a constituent unit of NPU. In this college, the sanctioned number of teachers is 16, no of workers is 39 and no. of students is about 10,000.

Janta Shivratri College is the premier center of excellence in the Faculty of Commerce in NPU. Besides it also imparts Graduation courses in Faculty of Arts, Science and BBA. Education for Intermediate in Arts, Science and Commerce is also available. In a backward area like Palamu, it has made its firm and permanent place with record results. Study center and department for P.G. in Commerce of NP University Medininagar are the integrated part of this college.
