Welcome to Braja Mohan Thakur Law College Madhubani

Late Braja Mohan Thakur, a legal luminary, educationist as well as a versatile genius in all walks of life. Mr. Thakur completed his master degree from Calcutta University in the year 1918. He became Headmaster of "Sanatan Dharam Vidyalaya" and "Shashwat Khatri Vidyalaya" and was also appointed as the Translator of Government of Bengal. Thereafter, Mr. Thakur was appointed as counsellor of Calcutta University by Late Sir Ashutosh Mukherjee, the then Hon'ble Vice Chancellor of Calcutta University. At the time Mr. Thakur was the Junior Classmate of late Dr. Rajendra Prasad, the first President of India. In association with Dr. Prasad and some other eminent persons, Mr. Thakur established "Vidwat Samiti" in Calcutta. Dr. Rajendra Prasad held the post of President of the Samiti while Mr. Thakur was the Secretary.

He was also the member of the Board of Higher Studies of Bengal Government. Moreover Mr. Thakur had also contributed to the propagation and development of the Maithili Language and by his hard labour, devotion and support of Raja Krityanand Sinha of Banaily Raj, Mr. Thakur had succeeded in introducing the Maithili language in the curriculum of the Calcutta University. With the request of Raja Kalikanand Singh of Srinagar Estate of Purnia, Mr. Thakur,joined Purnia Bar for civil litigation pending in the Court in respect of his Estate. He was also a popular lawyer among of this down trodden area.

His Dreams turned into reality: While practicing Mr. Thakur dreamt of establishing a law college in this area for the poor, who were especially socially and educationally backward. But in his life time the said dream was not fulfilled. Being his son, I had at times heard of exploring such college in this area. I, being the founder Principal ,took this challenge to explore the desirability of such college in this area. for that I organised a meeting of academicians, dignitaries, well-wishers and friends pursuant thereto, and was advised to take the responsibility of establishing a law college in the loving memory of my father, whose dream was fulfilled on 14th March, 1982, the date on which the college was established in this backward and down trodden area at Purnia.
