Welcome to Mahatma Gandhi Post Graduate College Gorakhpur

Mahatma Gandhi P.G. College, Gorakhpur was established by National Educational Society, Gorakhpur. This Society, established in 1909, started its first educational institution – Gorakhpur High School, now known as Mahatma Gandhi Intermediate College in 1909. The visionary leadership of the Managing Committee took action in 1969 for the establishment of a science college by considering the importance of science education for the student of eastern Uttar Pradesh and established Mahatma Gandhi Degree College, solely in science subjects like Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics, Botany and Zoology at undergraduate level. Post-Graduate courses were started with Chemistry and Zoology in 1992 and then college known by the name Mahatma Gandhi P. G. College. Later on, P.G. courses have been started in the subjects viz. Botany, Physics and Mathematics. Optional subjects Industrial Chemistry and Computer Application were introduced in year 2005 whereas Electronics was introduced in the year 2017 at under graduate level. Recently, Home Science department was established in the year 2017. As per the educational policy of State Government, M.Sc. Courses, Industrial Chemistry, Computer Application, Electronics and Home Science Courses are conducted under Self Finance Scheme. Mahatma Gandhi P. G. College is an exclusive Science Institution of eastern Uttar Pradesh (India) and accredited grade ‘B’ by NAAC. Number of students at under graduate level is around 1500 and at post graduate level is around 250, of these to an extent of 70-75% is girls. Academic performance of the college is excellent as is evident from the result of 75%in annual exam conducted by DDU Gorakhpur University, Gorakhpur of this 75%, about 70% students secure first division. Every department is having the facilities for research and majority of the faculty members have minor and major research grants from UGC / DST / DBT / CSIR / and UPCST. Various departments have published several research papers in Research Journals of National and International repute. The College campus is situated in the prime location of the city, adjacent to State Bank of India (Main Branch), Bank road, Gorakhpur. College has completed 49 years serving because of education particularly science at higher level. In the celebration of Golden Jubilee year, the management has besides other important activity decided to honour our past faculty members who infect have done a lot in the achievement of the dreams of the management. In this important celebration due recognition is planned to our distinguished alumni spread over country and also abroad.
